Obituary: Morgan Spurlock, 'Super Size Me' Director, Dies at 53
Morgan Spurlock, the independent filmmaker who playfully critiqued consumerism and capitalism through his documentaries, has died at the age of 53.
Spurlock's 2004 film 'Super Size Me' brought him widespread recognition and an Academy Award nomination. The film documented his experiment of eating nothing but McDonald's food for 30 days, gaining 25 pounds and developing health problems.
Spurlock continued to explore the intersection of food, health, and culture in subsequent films such as 'The Greatest Movie Ever Sold' (2011) and 'POM Wonderful Presents: The Greatest Movie Ever Sold' (2012).
Beyond his filmmaking, Spurlock also hosted the CNN series 'Inside Man' and authored several books on consumerism and nutrition.
Spurlock's death was announced by his wife Alexandra Jamieson, who said he died Thursday, May 23, in New York of complications from cancer.
